GENERAL IELTS – ACADEMIC IELTS PREPARATION COURSES
English exams, which measure the ability IELTS (The international İngilizce Langauge Testing System), is being implemented in 125 countries, including Turkey. However, more than seven thousand official institutions, universities and professional businesses worldwide accept IELTS as an English proficiency test. In our country, IELTS is obligatory for undergraduate, graduate and doctorate applications of state and foundation universities. The IELTS exam results, which are valid for two years, are also YSD equivalents.
IELTS has two different types of exams: General and Academic. If you are planning to take an academic education, you should choose the IELTS General exam if you need to take the exam for reasons such as academic, professional work or immigration.
Evaluation in IELTS exams
In general or academic IELTS exams, the evaluation of the candidates is done with a score table consisting of full and half points between 1-9. If you want to attend the undergraduate program at one of the universities abroad, IELTS scores 5,5 and 6; For master’s degree (master and doctorate) you should get between 6.5-7.0 points. For immigration or visa procedures, it is sufficient to get 6.0 points for IELTS General Exam.
IELTS exam modules
The IELTS exam consists of four modules: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking:
This section, which takes an average of 30 minutes, takes place in both Academic IELTS and General IELTS. It is divided into four parts and 10 minutes are allowed to switch between sections. Questions consist of multiple choice, short answers, sentence completion, summary completion, table filling, note completion and matches. Each question is a score. The score given out of forty is converted to IELTS score 1-9.
It is a 60-minute section that consists of 40 questions. In this section, candidates receiving Academic IELTS and General IELTS answer different questions. If you take the IELTS Academic exam, you will encounter reading chapters from scientific publications, newspapers or books.
General IELTS reading section consists of 3 parts. IELTS readings; daily newspaper news, articles and books in company catalogs. The second part consists of two short pieces. The questions include the issues that apply to job applications or workplaces. The third part is a much longer talk about everyday life. Each question is a score. The score given out of forty is converted to IELTS score 1-9.
It takes 60 minutes and consists of two writing pieces. The first writing piece is at least 150 words and the second writing piece is at least 250 words. In the IELTS Writing section, candidates who receive Academic IELTS and General IELTS write articles on different topics. In the general IELTS writing section, in the first section, candidates are asked to write a letter to get information about a situation or to explain a situation.
Speaking is a common part of the IELTS Academic and General Exam. Speaking is done independently of other parts before or after the written exams. The interview with an expert IELTS examiner lasts an average of 11-14 minutes. The IELTS speaking test consists of 3 parts.
